The ORT Visionaries campaign serves as recognition of ORT's 130th anniversary year. In 2010, members who increase their previous gift, from 2009, by any level will be honored as ORT Visionaries and proudly listed on our Honor Roll. ORT Visionaries are committed to changing lives through education - they have given more and gone that extra mile to assist communities in need. Not only assuring that ORT programs remain open to communities in need, but to expand programs that will reach others.
Joe Cohen ORT Scholarship Fund
ORT America has created a special scholarship fund in honor and in memory of an extraordinary supporter and our friend, Joe Cohen.
As a young man living in Egypt, Joe was forced to leave the country in 1956 during the Israeli Suez Canal campaign because of his French nationality. Arriving penniless in Paris, he earned a degree in plumbing at an ORT school there, and was given job placement. He then moved to the United States with his brothers. Coming full circle in 2004, Joe was the firstt student to become the National President of the organization. He became a tireless leader in The ORT Atlanta Region and in the Atlanta Jewish Community. Joe was a longtime partner in the firm Birnbrey, Minsk and Minsk.
His dedication to ORT and to ORT students was only shadowed by his love and commitment to his family and friends who loved him so dearly.

2010 ORT Lipson Program:

8 years ago, this program first began with a dream that the late Nathan Lipson had to connect ORT students throughout the world with our Jewish community in Atlanta. Together with Joe Cohen and other instrumental leaders and financial backing, the program became a reality and now, nearly a decade later, we have brought over 150 students and teachers to Atlanta from Argentina and Israel to learn and experience our unique Atlanta Jewish culture.
From January 12th - February 10th 6 Israeli students and their 2 teachers joined our Atlanta community to learn about our way of life - and teach us a thing or two about theirs!
This year's students and teachers were hosted by The Davis Academy and GHA and lived with families affiliated with the schools.
ORT Atlanta had the great pleasure of introducing the ORT Lipson Students and teachers to several of Atlanta's great sites like the Coca Cola Museum, the Georgia Aquarium and the CNN Center. They also had the chance to meet with the Israeli Consul General to the South East, Ambassador Reda Mansour as well as Joan Lipson, who's family co-founded the program.
The Atlanta Community rolled out the red carpet for the students and teachers and made them feel right at home. Two parties were hosted, one at the home of Sari & Randy Alifeld and one at the home Lori & Kirk Halpern, to welcome the Israeli Delegation and introduce them to the Atlanta Community.
We are so thankful for the opportunity to bring these students to Atlanta to share their stories with you and to show you how much your donations are appreciated by the children that benefit from our ORT programs.
Thank you so much to our 2010 Host Families:
Navit & Asher Adar
Sari & Randy Alifeld Connie & Robert Bachner Caryn & Jason Bernstein Judy & Lindsey Brown Lori & Kirk Halpern Merle & Anthony Solomon Julie & David Weiser
Heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to the following:
